Christians in Business: Jauch Painting
Jeff Jauch grew up with a paintbrush in his hand. As a child, Jauch was always painting and drawing, and his parents provided art tutors to encourage his skills. He continued his love for art in college by studying for a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in painting. A turning point in Jauch’s life occurred one year during college exams. Jauch worked as a picture framer and asked for exam week off work. The new manager refused the request, so Jauch quit. He immediately went to a friend’s house and asked if he could work for his painting business. The friend hired him on the spot. “I figured if I couldn’t frame art, I would at least still have a brush in my hand. It was just a bigger, different canvas,” he recalled. Jauch even began taking his two-and-a-half inch brushes from work to his canvases at school. “You can do a lot with a big brush. You can do fine things even with something that’s not so fine,” he said.
Jauch continued working for other residential painters, often driving to Holland and beyond for jobs. In 1997 his daughter, Chelsea, was born with Rett syndrome. Rett syndrome is a rare neurological disorder found primarily in girls, which affects

Such fantastic plans I had for this summer. I had a pile of books I wanted to read to my children, topics such as our bodies, peer pressure, boys and dating, healthy eating, and the adventures of that dear fella—Winnie the Pooh. And then there were the camping trips filled with frogs and camp store licorice and ice cold lemon tea. And showing the children the delights of the garden—peonies and ants, lilies and slugs. Fantastic plans they were.

I get frustrated when people try to say that this way or that way is the normal way to do something. Maybe for you it’s normal to mow your lawn when it’s about three inches high, but someone else’s standard might be two inches. Someone thinks it’s normal to buy a coffee every day while another person thinks normal is once a month. It’s normal for your friends to go somewhere on vacation four times a year and yet your normal is that you’re lucky to go anywhere once every other year.
Fortunately for the Christian, there are a lot of wonderful DVDs which have been released or are soon to be. Son of God was released on June 3, 2014, and is still ranked number four in Amazon.com’s bestseller rankings among faith and spiritual movies. It is ranked number nineteen in the drama category. It grossed nearly $60 million at the domestic box office. This is the Roma Downey and Mark Burnett film starring Diogo Morgado as Jesus and is one of the more accurate portrayals of His life.
