Terry's Picks February 2021
This is the column in which West Michigan Christian New writer Terry DeBoer surveys the landscape for the area's faith-inspired arts/entertainment/enrichment events over the coming month. This one goes beyond February to some events set for later this year...Here's a twist: an "online theatrical experience" offered by Master Arts Theatre. The dramatic production "The Velveteen Rabbit" will be staged for online audiences Feb. 11-20 by the faith-inspired theatre company. The century-old children's story by Margery Williams has charmed audiences of all ages. It's about a stuffed toy rabbit yearning to be real, and discovering the secret is in the love from its owner. Two youthful casts take turns presenting the play at 7pm Feb. 11-13 and 18-20; and 2pm Feb. 13 and 20. General access tickets are $5, available online https://ticketpeak.co/masterarts/events
Here's something farther afoot, but it's live and in-person. Singer-songwriter and worship leader Kim Walker-Smith brings her Worship Nights tour 7pm Thur. Feb. 18 to Mt. Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Rd. Lansing. Walker-Smith is part of Jesus Culture, a worship band connected to a California church of the same name. Last year she released a solo album, "Wild Heart." Tickets begin at $19.95 with higher prices for early entry and VIP designations. (At press time, the concert was sold out.) For more info online.
