Mel Trotter Ministries raises starting wage
Mel Trotter Ministries, a multifaceted outreach to the homeless based in the Heartside district of Grand Rapids, has increased its new employee's starting wage.In 2018, the Mel Trotter Ministries board and leadership decided to incrementally raise its starting wage from $10.50 to $15 an hour over three years. This year completed that transition. The change has already resulted in a stronger pool of job candidates and workers, a higher level of retention of employees and better service to the community.
Redeemed alcoholic Melvin Ernest Trotter founded Mel Trotter 120 years ago when it was known as the City Rescue Mission.
