Written by Terry DeBoer on . Posted in Local

EVENTSWest Michigan Christian News writer Terry DeBoer surveys the landscape for the area's faith-based arts/entertainment/enrichment events over the coming month. Here are three highlights for May:

*"Unashamed" – The film featuring Christian comedian Chonda Pierce plays in area theatres at 7pm Tues. May 7. The comedic yet inspirational film highlights the bold faith of several well known figures with interviews featuring singer Danny Gokey, Michael Tait, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. There are also segments of Pierce's uplifting comedy. Among West Michigan theatres showing the film: Celebration Cinema locations at GR North, South and Rivertown; Carousel 16 in Grand Haven, Goodrich Holland 7, and Kalamazoo 10. Tickets are $14-$15. *Chris Coursey – The co-author of the new book, "The 4 Habits of Joy-Filled Marriages: How 15 Minutes A Day Will Help You Stay in Love," hosts a special evening for married couples at 7pm Thurs. May 16 at Baker Book House, 2768 East Paris Ave. SE. in Grand Rapids. Coursey, who with his wife Jen designed the THRIVE training program, will act as a facilitator for the audience in practicing some of these "habit" suggestions. There is no admission charge. For more information online or call 616-957-3110.

*Jim & Melissa Brady and Voices of Victory – The two gospel music groups open the concert season at two area camps this month. Jim and Melissa Brady perform at 6pm Sun. May 26 at Sandy Pines Lakeside Chapel, 3630 26th St (south of 142nd Ave.) in Dorr. Jim Brady sang with The Booth Brothers for many years before musically teaming with his singer-songwriter wife Melissa. (Suggest bringing lawn chairs to Sandy Pines concerts). Meanwhile, the Voices of Victory, a local gospel quartet, performs at 7pm Monday May 27 (Memorial Day) at the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds, 12253 Lakeshore Dr. Grand Haven. A free-will offering will be received at each concert.
